Dartford CC v Broadstairs 1st XI 6th September 2025

A series of batting errors coupled with some misfortune meant Broadstairs were unable to finish their season on a high and instead suffered a 111-run defeat away to Dartford. Having lost the toss, the visitors were able to capitalise on the tricky conditions with Bradley Ellison (4-40) in particular enjoying some prodigious seam movement to work through the Dartford top order. At 75-6, it was looking like the match would reach a rapid conclusion and the visitors would be able to head back early for their end-of-season celebrations. However, Elliott Alger and Alex Cullingham had different ideas and their 93-run partnership salvaged the hosts’ innings and enabled them to post a total of 204.

With the pitch flattening-out and the batting conditions easing as the afternoon wore on, Broadstairs would have expected to overhaul this target and walk away with the eighteen points. However, it was not to be with only three players reaching double figures and the side slumped to 92 all out even before the half-way mark was reached.

This was a disappointing end to what has been a mixed second season in the Championship for Broadstairs CC. At times, they have played some scintillating cricket and there have been some outstanding individual performances, However, this was not often enough to warrant a finish in the top-half of the table and there were too many instances where matches that they should have won were lost, albeit by fine margins.

They can look forward to another season in the Championship next year where they will hope to build on the steady progress the have made over the last couple of years.
