Broadstairs CC Triumph Over Dartford CC: Fox’s Unbeaten 124 Seals Second Consecutive Win

Halfway Surge Lifts Broadstairs to Fifth in Championship

Despite the overcast conditions, the sun shone on Broadstairs CC as they hosted Dartford CC in a thrilling home encounter that marked the halfway point of the season. With momentum building from their previous win, Broadstairs were eager to consolidate their resurgence in the Championship, and thanks to a superb unbeaten 124 from opener Nathan Fox, their ambitions were emphatically realised.

Dartford Set a Testing Total

Dartford won the toss and chose to bat first, a decision that initially paid dividends as their top order capitalised on uncertain bowling and wayward fielding to build an imposing platform. At the 35-over mark, with the scoreboard reading 176-4, the visitors appeared poised for a 300-plus total. However, the introduction of Chris Kidd and George Kidd into the attack brought much-needed discipline and containment. The pair stifled the Dartford charge, with George Kidd in particular shining during the closing overs, claiming the final four wickets to restrict Dartford to a still daunting, but manageable, 256 all out.

Broadstairs’ Rocky Start and Fox-Kidd Revival

Chasing 257 for victory, Broadstairs’ top order found themselves in early trouble, slumping to 18-2 within the first five overs. The sizeable target looked distant, but the home side found hope and stability in a magnificent 118-run partnership between Nathan Fox and George Kidd. The pair batted with a blend of patience and controlled aggression, weathering Dartford’s best bowlers and recalibrating the pace of the chase.

When Kidd eventually departed for a valuable 60, the equation remained challenging, and the onus was on Fox to anchor the innings while seeking meaningful support from the middle order. The tension mounted as wickets fell at intervals, yet Fox’s composure never wavered.

With the required rate creeping up and just three wickets in hand, Fox expertly managed the chase. Fittingly, it was a thunderous six from his bat that sealed victory with 2.3 overs to spare, capping a memorable, unbeaten 124-run masterclass.

The Season So Far and Looking Ahead

This win marks Broadstairs CC’s second on the trot and elevates them to fifth place in the Championship table—part of a recent climb that reflects both resilience and growing confidence. As the season’s midpoint passes, the team looks to build on this momentum. Next week’s fixture sees Broadstairs travel to Whitstable CC, who sit one place above them in the standings. With memories still fresh of a season-opening defeat to Whitstable with the red ball, Broadstairs will be keen to exact revenge and continue their upward surge, this time with the pink ball in hand.
