Broadstairs CC were unable to make it three wins in a row as they suffered a heavy 107-run defeat at the hands of promotion contenders Bickley Park CC. Looking to recapture the form that saw them victorious in the home fixture earlier in the season, the visitors, not for the first time this season, found themselves having to chase a challenging target. This time however, the situation was of their own making as they had won the toss but decided nonetheless to field first. Things got off to a promising enough start with openers Bradley Ellison and George Kidd restricting Bickley Park to 25-1 in the first 9 overs. However, for the remainder of the hosts’ innings, the Broadstairs bowling unit struggled to rein-in the Bickley Park scoring and by the end of the 50 overs, the batting side had posted a total of 257-7.
The Broadstairs reply faltered from the start and at 63-5, it was going to take a monumental effort from the middle-lower order to get close to the target. Despite the best efforts of Matthew Frewin (45) and George Kidd (29), the match remained out of reach for the visitors and they had to settle for 5 points. The defeat puts them back into 6th position in the Championship with three to play, starting next week with an away fixture to Folkestone.
